Reality Estate
The culminating project of almost three years of our residency at the Curio City Shop, Reality Estate found over three hundred people 'singing the truths' of Five Ways estate, back to the city. Starting on Broad Street, the audience were led through a series of performance by local people to the estate itself, which was brought to magical life by the words of the residents, sung by some of the city's best choirs, on the estate itself. They were then led further on their journey, encountering a 25 image video projection piece by George Saxon, installed in the empty shops in Five Ways Shopping Centre.
We took the words and thoughts of the residents, collected both from the past two and a half years and through the process of building the show and, working with artist Mark Storor, we wove them into a collaborative poem which served as the basis for the sung score. Mark also worked collaboratively with residents, and then produced beautiful performances based on their stories, which they performed for each other.
