Philosophy, Ethics and Methodology
We've been making work with people for over 16 years, now and have developed our own approaches and methodologies as to how this happens. We are ethically driven, but have no political or religious affiliations, instead we have developed our own philosophy of engagement with the most diverse ranges of people in society.
We are fiercely convinced of the ability of art to enable people to make sense of their lives and to explore and interact with the world in unique and stimulating ways. It's strong stuff, art.
Our core approach can be summed up by our first principles whenever we embark on a new adventure:
Who am I? - what am I trying to achieve?
Who are we together? - what is the relationship, what is our mutual agenda?
What are we going to do?
How are we going to do it?
Often, participatory projects start at stage three or four, we believe you can't make a true collaboration without sorting out the first two stages. This is why we rarely repeat projects, different situations require different solutions.
Over the next six months we will be producing a toolkit manual on the methods we have developed over 16 years working with people to make art. Pop back for details on how you can get your hands on a copy.
